description

Designed to be engaging, educational, and fun for students, this book combines the high entertainment concepts found in popular books and television shows with proven comprehension strategies. Created by teachers,  students, and popular children's author, Kimberly Morris, (psst...look for her Disney's Fairies book, coming out in stores soon) this book hits all the right notes with kids: hip, fun, and challenging.

Overview of the Book

Leticia Garza is a 12-year-old inventor with some major big problems. A South American blood-sucking vampire space alien is stalking her. A seriously crooked invention promoter is threatening her. And a dangerous industrial spy who could destroy the whole world is totally messing with her head?

Can Leticia outrun, outwit, and outthink them all?

No way. Not until she hooks up with Eugene Jeffers, Bobby Dusek, Anita Vuong, and a parrot named Salsa at the Houston Junior Genius Competition. With their help, Leticia just might have a fighting chance at saving the planet.

Project History

Mystery of the Chupacabra, Book I of The Inventors Club, is a hilarious, thrilling, and scarifying mystery for readers 8-12 written by more than 300 collaborators from the Houston Independent School District's Sharpstown Learning Community and underwritten by a Houston Annenberg Challenge Grant.

If you are wondering how in the world so many people can collaborate on a writing project, you can a) read the project history or b) go to Collaborative Writing - and you will understand how it works.
